Newborn

Newborn Haze in Crystal-Clear Focus.

In the immediate days and weeks after delivering my children, I found myself in what I call The Newborn Haze. The intensity of sleep deprivation, hormonal shifts, physical demands, and an entire upending of day-to-day living left everything in a bit of a blur. A snuggly, beautiful, new-to-the-world blur. While I worked hard to soak in as much of that beauty as I could, there was much that I simply couldn't see from my vantage point.

As a photographer and an artist, I work to capture the details that not only fade so quickly, but are often difficult to perceive while in the thick of The Newborn Haze. I document the yawns and the finger curls, as well as the snuggles and the struggles to master a perfect swaddle. Documentary newborn photography is my rebuttal to The Newborn Haze. In these photos, everything comes into crystal-clear focus.
